Chiropractic, a specific type of joint manipulation, has been around in its current form for over 100 years. Initially frowned on by the medical profession, world-wide research over the last few years has confirmed the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for many types of joint and muscle pain. This has been reflected in government-sponsored guidelines, endorsed by the medical profession, recommending manipulation (as performed by chiropractors) for back pain.

In addition to manipulation, chiropractors here at the Clinic use massage techniques, electro-therapies such as ultra-sound, orthopaedic supports, dietary supplements and other therapies to help.

The Clinic has its own x-ray and developing facilities, and is a base for a number of other therapists* providing a range of services. Regular open evenings are held, and treatment is paid for by several local employers and private health care insurers.

Chiropractic is governed by law in the UK - chiropractors must register with the General Chiropractic Council. In addition, all the Clinic's chiropractors are members of the British Chiropractic Association, the UK's premier professional association. Members must have undergone a 4-5 year full-time accredited course. Chiropractors are required to regularly update their understanding with seminars, conferences and audits.

The Rehab suite at the Clinic provides a large, fully-equipped exercise facility specifically for rehabilitation to help those with unstable or chronic complaints. Several exercise classes are held in the suite.

Chiropractic is used to treat most joint or muscle pain, especially:
  • low back pain
  • neck shoulder and arm pain
  • sciatica and disc problems
  • headaches and migraines
  • joint stiffness.
It may also be effective for:
  • sprains and strains
  • muscular pain
  • arthritic discomfort
A range of leaflets covering treatment of these and other conditions is available at the Clinic. The chiropractors are always ready to advise whether or not treatment may be of benefit, so do feel free to phone the Clinic (even if you haven't been before) and ask.

Often a course of treatment will be advised, to ensure improvement is maintained, reduce the risk of relapses and prevent long-term problems. The chiropractor involved should be able to advise what would be recommended for any specific case.
